Natural Transporter – Volunteers

What is the task of the Natural Transporter?

Your role will be to pick up the animal at the Fauna Center Torreferrussa in Barcelona or at the Fauna Center Vallcalent in Lleida and bring it to Solsona.

You don’t have to worry about the animal’s integrity. In the wildlife center they will prepare it so that you can take it in your vehicle to the collection point.

Animals to be transported

The animals you will transport are babies that were abandoned or have fallen from the nest. They are not dangerous or sick animals.

Animals that require more attention during transport, i.e. protected animals and medium and large animals, will be transported directly by the Zoo of the Pyrenees staff.

Legal requirements

The animals you will transport will not be protected or dangerous animals.

1. We will send you the specific volunteer contract for Natural Transporters. It will be sent to you in digital format, so you can always have it handy on your phone.
2. The recovery center will give you a document of cession of the animal or animals.

These two documents legally justify your task and the transport of the animals.

Regular transporters

The optimal situation would be to have volunteers who make the trip on a regular basis and thus ensure the collection of animals in need 3 times a week at each of the wildlife centers.

But let’s be realistic. Emergencies will always occur and we will need to cover travel. For these cases a WhatsApp group will be used.

Closed WhatsApp group

With your explicit permission you will enter one of the closed WhatsApp groups:

• Natural Transporter BCN
• Natural Transporter Lleida

These groups have the function to reach with a message all the volunteers who could make the transport, but without us bothering you too much. Only the administrator of the group can speak, i.e. the number of the Zoo of the Pyrenees. This way we avoid that you receive messages on other topics or that you suddenly find yourself with an endless number of messages.

Communication

1. We received a notice from the Wildlife Center that they have one or more animals for the zoo.
2. We communicate through the corresponding WhatsApp group:
   • What animal is involved
   • When it should be picked up

Confirmation

If you have availability, please contact us by private chat.

You will need to provide us with the following information:

• Name and surname
• Day you can pick up the animal
• Pick-up time
• Estimated time and place of delivery in Solsona

We will take care of the confirmation with the Wildlife Center. We will notify by WhatsApp group that the task is already covered.

The animal will be prepared at the wildlife center in a cardboard box. The box is secure and has everything the animal needs for transportation.

You only have to go to the wildlife center. They will be waiting for you and will give you the animal with a document of cession that you will give us together with the animal.

During transport, make sure that the box with the animal does not fall down or moves to much. It is important that you do not open the box or cover it, for the safety of the animal.

Temperature in the car

As for the temperature, if you are well in the car, so is the animal. Do not put it in front of the air conditioning outlet.

You may not leave your vehicle for a long time while transporting the animal to prevent the car from heating up so that nothing happens to it.

Pick up

A worker of the Zoo of the Pyrenees will be waiting for you at the scheduled delivery point when you arrive. If you see that you will arrive at a different time than agreed, call us when you are 30 minutes away from Solsona and the worker will leave the Zoo. He will pick up the animal and take it to the veterinary clinic of the Zoo. There the animal will receive all the attention for its quick recovery.

Although you help should be selfless, we want you to feel that we appreciate your implication.

1. You will receive the volunteer certificate.
2. You will be part of the Wild Souls, a community of people helping to change this world.
3. Once a year we will invite volunteers to a meeting of the «Wild Souls».

Expiration of your volunteering

You can resign from volunteering at any time with immediate effect.
